'Below, low tomb recess with segmental arch; centered above this, small niche under ogee arch for use in Depositio*; flanking niche in either side, 2 small panels with ogee cusped heads, each containing relief of sleeping soldier; these wearing chain mail, sleeveless surcoats, & basinets & having spears and heart shaped shields charged with grotesque faces; faces hacked away, except for one whose helmet covers his face; above central niche, steeply pointed gable with spiral crockets & finial; standing on finial of lower arch, risen Christ; he blesses with R hand, holds long cross- staff with banner in L; wounds in side and feet visible; below him, 2 angels with censers; half figures with folded hands serve as stops at lower corners of gable; painting modern; 14c.'

*Depositio. The ritual burial of a cross on Good Friday in a re-enactment of Christ’s burial.

Height 1.76m, width 1.30m. height of apex above floor 3.16m.

Roll moulded arch over hooded tomb recess containing two stone slabs with a stylised cross. Arch inscribed in black paint (some parts worn):

THEIR BODIES ARE BURIED IN PEACE
BUT THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE

There is no date or attribution.

Arch width 1.86m, 0.80m high.

South side of the sanctuary has a 13th century chamfered and moulded piscina to the east, and the remains of a piscina in the window recess.

  1 x  1.49m long with two partitions, giving seating spaces of 49, 45 & 45 cms.

  1 x 3.200m. Kneeler and book rest

Panelling with power points to lower north and south walls. Height north 0.92m, south 1.03m.

Movable stripped plain oak pews. C16 with C20 ends. 17 x 1.880m long, 3 x 1.490m long.

2 x Churchwarden’s staffs. One topped with a brass crown, the other with a brass mitre.

2 staffs headed with 3 branched candlesticks.

Pulpit with embroidered frontal. The plaque attached to it reads as follows:

IN RESTORING THIS CHURCH
HE DIED IN 1969

Wall crucifix above pulpit.

Holy Bible and Apocrypha. Nelson (1959). Inscription: “St Peter’s Sibthorpe. Given in memory of Stanley Avis (who died 30 January 1969) by two of his sisters, regular worshippers here”.
