Located on the front of the west gallery, facing east, five painted panels, two principal to the north and south, and three central, balanced around a depiction of the Crucifixion. All figures were painted in 1950s clothes and attitudes.
From the south the scenes depicted are:
The Nativity, with Joseph in 1950s clothes observing an angel, Mary shown with close-cropped black hair, wearing a blue skirt and a long, close-fitting, dark jumper, looking down on the Infant Jesus in a white shawl.
Fleeing Herod, with Joseph in a trilby hat, wearing a bright check muffler underneath a brilliant yellow jerkin with a zip-fastener with a hiker’s rucksack on his back. Mary on a donkey, short hair, a green shawl, and holding the infant Jesus.
Jesus in the Temple, with the Elders, one wearing a collar and tie, as disputing with the boy Jesus who is shown in a shirt and red pullover. The scene is watched over by Mary from within a thorn tree.
The discovery of the empty tomb, with running figures. Mary, her hair now silver, in a long black jumper, dark skirt, and black silk stockings is carrying a shopping-bag. Peter is in a neat grey lounge suit, but John has his shirt-sleeves rolled up and part of his shirt hanging out of his brown corduroy slacks.
