For this church:
Grove St Helen
The clock is a turret clock by T. Cooke and Sons of York and is dated 1883. There is a single dial on the south face of the tower. It has now been electrified but retains the original mechanism.
Thomas Cooke of York was a scientific instrument maker who also made turret clocks. His factory was in Bishophill, York. He died in 1868 and the business was continued by his sons. The Grove clock is unusual in the county being the only example currently known in a church.
On the south wall are two pencilled names and dates: Paul Wardock and Philip Butcher, both dated 11 November, the former 1951 and the latter 1957; they may have been commemorating Remembrance Day by ringing the bells.
