Bells

A western tower containing a ring of 3 bells:

1. ++ Taylor Founder Loughborough  MDCCCXLIIII
2. [+34] God save the church 1641
3. J:Taylor& C.. Founders Loughborough 1878

Hung in a wooden frame, Pickford Type 6.B, for three bells with wooden headstocks and plain bearings; it probably dates from the 18th century. All the fittings date from 1878 when the Taylors recast the tenor. The treble is an earlier bell by them, not long after their arrival at Loughborough. The second is the work of George I Oldfield.

The predecessors of the Taylor bells were:

1. IESV BE OVR SPED
3. GOD SAVE HIS CHVRCH 1656

The old treble would seem to have been by Henry I Oldfield, and the tenor by George I Oldfield. Both were cracked before recasting.

In inventories prior to the 19th century we have entries that described the bells thus:

1552: No entry

1740: 4 bells (probably an error)

1770: 3 bells
