Glass
The centre light in the east window is filled with stained glass. The apex
depicts a pelican with her young, below which there is a picture of the Crucifixion
with St John and St Mary standing on either side of the cross. In the lower
compartment, the brazen serpent is represented as raised on the cross in the
wilderness and our Lord as teaching the lesson of St John 3.14. At the
foot of this compartment is the following inscription:
TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF
RICHARD DE SIBTHORP THE GOOD PARSON OF BECKINGHAM
‘At a recent restoration the stained glass was inserted in the centre
light of the east window in memory of the founder of the college’ (AAS
XXII 1896 p333)
Torre says that in the C14 the arms of England and the Spencers were in the
north window. All the windows are now plain glass except for the centre light
in the east window.
