Bells

It was originally planned that a peal of eight bells would be installed. Initially it was only possible to purchase one bell.  Installed in 1889, it had been cast in 1883 by J Warner and Son of London. This bell may have been previously installed in the existing mission building. A second bell was added in 1937 which was number five in the original plan. The maker was John Taylor and Company of Loughborough. It was inscribed ‘God save the King’. It had a circumference of 31 inches and weighed 25cwt. When the church was demolished it was rescued by the Southwell Bell Ringers. It was later installed in the Anglican Church at Varia, Kenya. The 1883 bell was scrapped and the metal used to cast a new treble bell for Rempstone Parish Church.
