Plumtree
St Mary

Features and Fittings

Many of the permanent fittings date from the restoration of 1872-5.

Chancel

Altar and Reredos

Oak altar table with carved front face.

Reredos of pine painted with shields showing the instruments of the crucifixion.

Sedilia

On the S wall of the sanctuary three stone sedilia with ogee moulding above.

Triptych

A small and pretty triptych is fixed to the chancel south wall near the rood screen. It was copied from a triptych in Cologne Cathedral executed by Stephan Lochner (or Lothener) and chromolithographed by C Schulte. The printing was done by Hangard-Mauge for the Arundel Society 1874 and 1875. The central panel shows the Adoration of the Magi, flanked by, left, St Ursula with her virgins, and right, St Gereon (Jerome) and his warriors. Outside it shows the Annunciation - the provenance of this is not known.
