Bells in the belfry

A western tower contains a ring of six bells.

An inventory of 1552 states: ‘Norwell with Carrelton: III belles, a sacrying belle, a hand belle.’ The fate of these bells is unknown.

Three bells were recorded in 1740.

An earlier wooden frame, containing three bells, was found to be seriously affected by dry rot and replaced with a steel low-sided frame for six bells by Taylors in 1932 with cast-iron headstocks and ball bearings. The three bells were augmented to 4 in 1933 and 6 in 1977.

Bell 4:
   Recast of a bell by Daniel Hedderly of 1703; Norwell on Hedderley sales list in 1787. The old bell weighed 5cwt 3qt 0lbs and measured 32". Bells rehung at that time by James I Harrison of Barton on Humber
