Carlton-on-Trent St Mary

Churchyard

The eastern side of
the churchyard

The churchyard is rectangular with the church offset towards the south-west corner. There are burials on all sides though none appear to pre-date the present building. At the south-west corner, just inside the entrance gate, are the graves of the architect G G Place and his wife.

The western boundary is formed by a small, cultivated hedge and there is a metal, hooped-top gate at the south-west corner leading from the main road. Another cultivated hedge forms the southern boundary and there are some mature trees. A wooden fence and hedge jointly form the northern boundary and a line of mature trees lie within the churchyard along this side. The eastern boundary comprises shrubs, small trees and cultivated hedge.
